College Access Campaign / College Application Week

The American College Application Campaign (ACAC) is a national effort to increase the number of first-generation students and students from low-income families pursuing a college degree or other higher education credential. The primary purpose of this effort is to help high school seniors navigate the complex college admissions process and ensure they apply to at least one postsecondary institution. The effort occurs during the school day, with a focus on students who might not otherwise apply to college. South Dakota College Application Week got its start in 2014 with nine high schools participating and the campaign continues to grow and add new high schools each year. During College Application Week, seniors at participating high schools are eligible for free applications to participating South Dakota postsecondary institutions.

For 2021, the college application week is being extended to almost six weeks as part of a broader College Access Campaign to allow more time for students to take advantage of a free application period.  There are also no limits to how many institutions a student may apply to during this time frame, and it is open to everyone

Frequently Asked Questions

 •
Is there a limit to how many fee waivers a student may receive?
No, there are no limits. A student may apply to as many institutions as they wish during the free application campaign period of October 18 through November 30.

 • De I need to enter a discount code to have the application fee waived?
Some institutions do require a discount code. See "Participating Institutions" list above for applicable discount codes.

 • Do I have to be a current high school senior to be able to take advantage of the free application period?
No. To help address requests from non-traditional students and adult education centers, the free application period is now open and available to everyone. This means from high school seniors to stay-at-home moms/dads and everyone in between... anyone looking to pursue postsecondary education in South Dakota may take advantage of the free application period for undergraduate admissions applications at participating institutions October 18 through November 30.

 • Am I still considered a first-time student if I took college level courses through the High School Dual Credit Program while in high school?
Yes, if a high school senior has participated in the High School Dual Credit program, they are still considered a first time student for the purposes of college admissions applications. Indicating a different status may cause the fee waiver to be rejected. Contact the admissions office of the institution your are applying to if you experience this type of error while completing an application.

 • What if I submit my application after November 30 and the campaign has ended?
Any admissions applications submitted after the free application period has ended will be subject to paying the respective application fee.
