SDSU College of Nursing to award scholarships to students pursuing advanced practice degrees

The South Dakota State University College of Nursing again received funding for scholarships through the Advanced Educating Nursing Traineeship program from the Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

As a result of these funds, the college will award 15 scholarships of almost $22,000 each during the 2015-16 academic year. Of those scholarships, 14 went to students pursuing doctor of nursing practice degrees with the other scholarship to a student pursuing a master's degree. In addition, three DNP students received funds for summer classes.

Forbes Ranks University of South Dakota Among Top Colleges

Forbes has ranked the University of South Dakota among the top 650 colleges in the United States.

USD is on the 2015 list ahead of all other colleges in the Dakotas. It's the top public school and second behind only the University of Denver in the Summit League Conference. And USD is ranked as the top school among those in the Missouri Valley Conference.

"We are excited about the endorsement as the best in the Dakotas, but we are equally excited about where USD stands in our athletic conferences," said Scott Pohlson, USD Vice President of Marketing, Enrollment & University Relations. "Being the best in the Missouri Valley Conference and second in the Summit League Conference aligns well with our strategic plan at USD, which is to be the best small public flagship university in the nation built upon a liberal arts foundation. It is an exciting time to be at USD, and Forbes' endorsement reinforces why our Coyote Family continues to grow in stature."

Forbes which partnered with the Center for College Affordability and Productivity for the ranking, said its methodology focused on what students get out of college, including satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt, graduation rate, academic success and how each school ranked the past three years.

Founded in 1862, The University of South Dakota is designated as the only public liberal arts university in the state adn home to a comprehensive College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, School of Health Sciences, the state's only School of Law, School of Medicine, the accredited Beacom School of Business and the College of Fine Arts. USD has an enrollment of more than 10,000 students taught by more than 400 faculty members.
